Ignorance is the Problem not the Flag

Whether it be in the deepest South, or up here in the land of the Ape the continual harping and whining about how divisive the flag is, has just about worn my last nerve raw.
I find it most ironic that Southrons are portrayed as nothing more than illiterate, bigoted hicks intent on keeping the WBTS alive. In truth it appears to me that it is, the Yankee arrogance and need to oppress, combined with no true realization of what that war was about (ignorance on their part) that has kept the healing process on hold for over 140 years.
There isnt a day that goes by that someone throws out the rant that our beloved flags are divisive, or worse. Just by merely playing the same old card, and throwing out the same ole soundbites, the enemy wins day after day. The pathetic results is that it all trickles down to the common man and his family. Ya know the guy who lives up the street if not next door, who is easily led astray by the enemy because they are so consistant and persistant in their assaults upon those who revere our Confederate ancestors and their symbols.
A prime example of this, is the family that moved up the way from us here in the recent past. I know I sent a post about their drive- by insults and one finger salutes a couple weeks or so back. Their actions were really having an effect upon me and mine. Geez it got to where it was a hassel to even sit in the backyard and reflect upon God's wonder in the garden plants, and the flowers an such. Yet after being "moled-up" all winter because of the crud winters we have here, ya just have to endure the yankee mentality. It's either that or go looney, or worse yet resort to their tactics.
Well the other afternoon, I was headed to town for something or other, when I saw this gaggle of cars and trucks, first I thought there might have been a wreck, but when I got closer I saw a car broke down and a truck with a trailer, and a jeep. So before turning off to avoid the situation all together I just pulled over and watched. I recognized one of the guys on the scene as the drive-by insulter. Seeing him outside of his truck for the first time, I thought whew, man I dont want any part of this guy. I mean it was most evident that I was giving up at least 100# and 25 years to him, not to mention he stood at least 3 inches taller than me.
I sat up the road for a few minutes watching as the big guy, and the little geekoid that was with him try and figure out how the two of them were gonna load this full size, non running car on the trailer by themselves. After I watched them nearly rip their guts out pushing to no avail, I pulled up, got out, and said " can I be of help?" Well, the look I got let me know, he knew as well who I was as I knew him. He just barked at the other guy to push harder, and didnt reply to me at all, so I just jumped in and started pushing. When the back end of the car was almost to touch the trailer, the little guy slipped and he must have been giving it his all, because when he wasnt pushing we lost ground and dang near got runover as it came down the ramps.
Totally frustrated now, the big guy starts to rant, and the little guyheads to the jeep. I followed him, and asked" dont ya'll have a winch on the front of this jeep?" He just looked at me and said "no".......geez why have a jeep and no winch, I thought. I asked "have ya got a chain?", the big guy says " just this short one that I was gonna boom the car down with." I said " hook that chain somewhere solid on the frame, I then pointed up the street to the little guy, and said "go ask the guy at Barney's if ya'll can borrow a tow strap for a few minutes, tell him the "Reb" needs it. Barney's is a little at home body shop about a block or two from where we were Barney is into quads and such, and I knew he had a tow strap. Well less than 5 minutes later, here comes the jeep with tow strap. I had the jeep dude, turn around with the hitch side to the trunk of the car. I tied the strap underneath the jeep, ( he didnt even have a ball on the hitch), then hooked the other end of the tow strap to the chain. I walked over to the big guy and said" why don't ya'll climb in the car, I'll check and make sure we get the slack out, and then I'll make sure we get ya'll lined up on the ramp right. I could see his expression change for the first time. He climbed in the car, I went to the front and directed him which way to crank the wheels, then I went to the jeep and had him pull the slack out. I went back up front, to make sure we had the car headed right, gave the jeep dude a signal to pull, and up on the trailer she went neat as a pin and with little effort at all.
I started to walk off, when the big guy hollered "Hey thanks for your help", I said "ya'll R welcome, just make sure Barney get his tow strap back ok?" The little guy said "I will", he jumped in and drove off, I turned the corner and followed him on the other side of the block without him being aware, he stopped at Barney's and headed in with the strap, I drove on by.
Now that guy still drives by "Mole Church", he dont stop to visit, or have a glass of sweet tea, but he dont holler obsenities, or flip us off anymore. Now I'm sure I haven't changed 30 years of his upbring in regards to the Confederacy, but I did show him Southron courtesy, and neighborly like actions. Who knows maybe one day he will stop and we can talk about those 5 flags and that memorial in our yard. Who knows? Not I.But I am sure the Lord does work mysterys in everyday life, and when he uses me in the slightest manner I feel blessed. Take lifes victories however ya can get them is my motto.
