The Capt. Winston Stephens Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans #2041 is proud to share with you its plan for the War Between the States Heritage Highway project.
Our hope is to set up a driving tour to help promote the historical Gems we are blessed to have in our area. We know this will be a boost to our area with the Camp Milton Project coming online soon.
We plan on working with all the small towns between Jacksonville and Lake City to set up a week long Festival leading up to the battle of Oulstee.
Our vision is that in the time it takes a person to drive from Jacksonville to Oulstee that they know almost everything that led up to the largest war between the states battle fought on Florida soil.
Here are the proposed marker locations for the Heritage Highway project that have put together by the members of the Capt. Winston Stephens Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans #2041 Baker, County.
The project will start by marking the February, 1864 Battle campaign in Northeast Florida. Both Union and Confederate stories to be told as pertaining to each site.
1. Camp Finegan or Camp Shaw as it is later called. 2. 10 mile station - White House area.
3. Baldwin - Railhead
4. Barbers Plantation - Major involvement before and after the battle of Oulstee.
5. Sanderson - This marker is already in place and fits in with the plan.
6. Lake City.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Added markers to help tell story.
7. Battle of Cedar Creek - ON Jacksonville's westside near Lane Ave
8. Camp Milton - At the project site.
9. Camp Jackson - In Glenn St. Mary's Florida.
If you can help in any way please let us know.
