Issue 6 Vol.1                                                              Camden Mounted Rifles                                                               March 04

Our next Celebration is on March 12 at 7:00 P.M.
On the date of our meeting in 1864 the Federal Army started their campaign up the Red River in Louisiana.

S.C.V.

  • Camp#747

  • From the Commander's Tent.
                Dear Compatriots,
Where are ya'll! We still have a SCV camp that meets on the second Friday of every month. We would love to have you there to help us salvage our southern history that we are slowly losing.

I guess you have read about the real Georgia Flag falling by the wayside. The liberal papers love to watch our southern heritage become a thing of the past. Yankee Atlanta has become the " liberal North of the South".

The vast majority of our southern folks have become Scalawags and just don't care about our heritage anymore. It's every man for themselves.

SCV Compatriots when you became a member you took an oath (on our beloved flag) that you would not forget what our wonderful ancestors did for our south. There were the real southerns. Where are you my compatriots?

Commander,
                 Carl Sheppard, Deo Vindice
  • From the Desk of the Lt. Commander.
Sunday Apr.4, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. Camp#747 Camden Mounted Rifles will encamp on the St. Marys River bank a few miles south of Traders Hill, Ga. for the purpose of drilling and Target Practice.

Compatriots from nearby Camps, OREL Ladies, family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating Confederate Heritage Month.

Activities will include drilling, black powder target practice, horses, and of course food. Come to the meeting or call Rickey Smith at (912)-496-4234 for directions, numbering your party, and supplies or rations needed.
        Lt. Commander,
         Rickey Smith
  • From the Desk of the Adjutant.

Please, send in your dues if have not already. I have two full uniforms that are extra if anyone wants to "dress out" for our upcoming events let me how.
        Adjutant,
         Jay Sheppard

  • From the desk of the Chaplain.
        The Game of Life

Everyone has things in their past,
For which there is some degree of shame,
It may be small or it may be big,
God for gives you, it's all in the game.

When Satan reminds you of your past,
        Remind him of his future,
Your existence will be filled with beauty,
While his dismal needs will be a suture.
We'll have a life everlasting if we do our best,
Not to every veer from God's will,
We can still have fun and enjoy life,
        Just don't practice overkill.

Love your kinfolk and friends intently,
Don't allow Satan's traps to intervene,
And one day in the sweet by and by,
You'll live midst a beautiful scene.
The limit human mind cannot conceive,
What Jesus for us has prepared,
If we'll live our lives in Holiness,
And avoids Satan's traps to be snared.

        Improved your everyday mindset,
To dwell on the things divine,
        All else matters very little,
Well spent will be your time.
You will always meet with many distractions,
This is part of Satan's plan,
But if you resist him strong enough,
Remember, in the past he ran. (James 4:7-10)
So please let not your mind ever wander,
        To Satanic, sinful things,
Then become the focus of obsessions,
        Oh, what trouble it brings.
Pray everyday for more God-given strength,
To avoid the pit-fall and snare,
And if in the game of life you grow stronger,
        Jesus will always be there.

You may sometimes disagree with your many peers,
        Without become disagreeable,
Keep the faith in the King of kings at all time,
Heaven is must more than conceivable.

        Chaplain,
         Hugh Jenkins

  • From the desk of the OREL Education Chair Person.
                    To OREL Ladies,
I'm concerned! Are ya'll concerned? If not, you should be. Camden Mounted Rifles, Camp#747 Sons of Confederate Veterans meet only once a month. Where are you?
Above all, I realized there is much to do with life's busy duties and responsibilities. But there comes a time when we must all step a side from those ever so tiresome chores and take a look at what we are doing to preserve our Southern Heritage. You are the one who must ask; "What am I doing to help educate others about true Southern History?"

Camp 747's OREL used to have all of its ladies present at the meetings. Now there is just a handful and the meetings have unimproved with birthday parties one for Robert E. Lee and one for the camp's new adjutant, Jay Sheppard. These have been meetings to where the ladies just wanted to bring loads of cakes in. Now, that's the spirit of Robert E. Lee.
So I leave you with this. See you at the next meeting!

            Education Chair, OREL,
                                     Dr. Dana H. Sheppard
