The Flag of Brantley County
by Stephanie Watkins

In Feb of 2004, camp #1919 Brig Gen Robert H Anderson donated a 45' flag pole to camp 2022 and talk started about erecting a large Confederate Battle Flag somewhere in Brantley County. Talk, plans and negoations continued on the Flag Pole and a site was found and decided on. Surveys were done, contracts were drawn up and on May 19, 2004 the contract was signed, sealed and delivered!! We now have a place to raise our Flag!! Camp 2022 of the SCV had leased a 30' X 30' plot accross from the Waynesville, GA Post office on Highway 82.

A committee was formed for raising money for a large flag to go up on this pole.
Dewey Barber donated a 10' X 15" Confederate Battle Flag.
Thanks a million Dewey.

Funds are always a problem with a camp like this one so an effort was started to raise money to cover the cost of erecting the Flag Pole Then along comes Greg Hanson of Minnesota. He donated to Camp 2022, a framed $500 Confederate Bond with interest coupons attached for a fund raiser. Then add the Gifted artist and dedicated flagger Janet Baber, she graciously donated to Camp 2022, one of her Maj. Gen Cleburne prints. We started a raffle for these two items and on the day of the raffle drawing, we will raise the Confederate Battle Flage.

The hole was dug out and rebar was put into place, the hole is ready for concrete, thanks to the efforts of Tom Lavender, Huey Ham and Matthew Messenger.

On June 3, 2004, the concrete arrived!!

and was poured...

it was worked in....

and finnished

Tom Lavender worked on setting some lights up for the Flag, one on each side in the front.

On June 19, 2004, the the boom truck, owned and operated by Ronald Ham, arrived and the Flag Pole went up!!

OH NO Ronald!! get your fingers away from that pully!!
By the way, Ronald Ham is one of several Life Members of Camp 2022
